Sneak Peek…
INTRODUCTION
I was just reading a book that asked people ‘What advice would you give your 20-something self?’ Ah, isn’t hindsight a wonderful thing, what advice would you give yourself if you had the chance? I know what mine would be; do something….anything, whilst you have the time. Set some goals, get fit, save some money, start that business plan, take some risks, start a project, go for your dream job. The list goes on. It’s funny how we have such an urge to do these things only after we’ve eliminated all of our free time to actually do them by filling each day caring for small people that live in our house and rule our lives. It’s probably something to do with wanting to provide security for our family, or be an inspiration to our children but in reality, most of the time, these thoughts of ‘I wish I had the time to….’ just come from the depressing feeling of realising that other than being a mother you haven’t really accomplished anything since you gave birth. So, to answer the question; I would shake my 20year old self – with her slim figure, free from the scars of multiple child births and care free look on life – I’d shake her and say, ‘Go and do something with your life, you won’t have time to do this when you have kids!!!’ (Ghost of Christmas past voice) …. Unless she was napping of course, then I would leave her until she woke. ‘You deserve to rest.’ I’d say. ‘You enjoy it love, it won’t last.’
Yes, hind sight is a beautiful thing, a little sole destroying when you visualise the time and opportunities you have already missed, but beautiful all the same, sort of. Upon the realisation of this, we cannot however do anything about the decisions we made (or didn’t make) in the past, all we can do now is make sure that we use the opportunities that we have RIGHT NOW. And I’m going to help you see that you still have an abundance of opportunities awaiting, despite the restrictions that being a parent can sometimes bring.
